CHISHOLM, Minn. — Just one week ago Ed Walberg was fatally wounded in a Chisholm bar shooting. On Saturday, Walberg’s friends gathered to remember him by doing something that he loved – an ATV ride.
Walberg’s friends remember him as a funny, kind, caring and all-around good guy. “He was the type of person that made the room shine,” Kevin Succio said.
Walberg also had a love for the outdoors. “We’d go hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to go 4-wheeling,” said Succio. Walberg’s friends met Saturday at Tom and Jerry’s Bar and Lounge, just like they’ve done on Saturdays past for their weekend ATV rides.
“There’s a group of maybe 10 to 15 of us that would go every other Saturday,” says Succio, “it was just one of those things that we did.” Walberg was the leader of the group. Succio recalled that he knew all the trails. However, Saturday’s ATV ride had a different meaning. “Today’s about remembering Ed, and we’re going to celebrate Ed today,” Succio said.
The group planned to take their normal route, making a few special stops along the way. “We’re going to go up [to] this place called Ed’s Point,” Succio said. “It overlooks two pits he brought us to a long time ago, and we’re going to do a memorial for him.”
Succio said the group plans to continue their Saturday rides – but he said they’ll never be the same without their leader. “Ed would be amazed to see the turnout,” Succio said. “He would have an ear to ear smile.” Also Saturday, the family of Cale Nelson – who was wounded in last week’s shooting – reported that he has been moved out of the intensive care unit.
